Splitting a single image into multiple tiles is a great visual storytelling technique, inspired by many Instagram creators. It’s also a creative way to present your club or community on Frontcover, making your profile and updates more engaging and eye-catching.

It depends a bit on your platform (phone, tablet, desktop) and how precise/ control you want to be. Here are two recommended good apps/tools and approaches that can split a photo into tiles (grids, slices, etc.).

Hot Tip: It's best to start with a portrait 2:3, square 1:1 or 3:2 landscape photo or image.

1. Pine Tools — Split & Overlapping

Pine Tools is a free online utility that lets you quickly split an image into equal tiles either vertically, horizontally, or as a grid. A useful feature is the Overlapping option, which crops the photo or image to allow for gaps. We recommend setting this to 20px for Frontcover.

In summary, you can:

  • Add Overlapping around each tile for a more seamless photo experience

  • Resize to meet recommended specifications

  • Export as JPG/ Webp for easy sharing or embedding on Frontcover

Best for: Quick, no-frills splitting with basic cropping to create more seamless gaps between photos.

2. Canva — Photo Divider (by Shraddha)

Within Canva, the Photo Divider app by Shraddha provides extra flexibility for preparing tiled images. Beyond simple splitting, you can:

  • Add Borders around each tile for a clean, professional look

  • Crop & Resize to ensure alignment and framing

  • Export as JPG for easy sharing or optimising for Frontcover

We recommend setting the Border to 20px for Frontcover.

Best for: Users who want more design control, or who are familiar with building graphics in Canva.

Summary

  • Pine Tools is ideal if you need a fast, web-based solution and benefit from overlay numbering.

  • Canva’s Photo Divider is perfect if you want borders, resizing, and export options inside a flexible design editor.

Both options make it easy to create tiled visuals — a technique increasingly popular with Instagram creators — and bring that same engaging style to showcasing your club or community on Frontcover.
